He is professionally groomed every 2 to 3 months,no issues at the groomers to report.
Exercise
Winston gets walked twice a day 1 hour per day longer at the weekends.
He really enjoys his walks especially when it involves lots of smells to sniff.
Winston needs training with his recall ,he is very treat orientated which is great for training.
We do not advise his new owners to allow him off lead, until you have complete trust in his recall.
Whilst out on walks he picks and chooses what dogs he likes to play with, some he just ignores. He loves to meet and greet other dogs and may pull on his lead to do so.
General Information
Winston is very bouncy and cuddly, wants to be involved in everything. He is very curious and always needs to be with you, for example if his owner is cooking he needs to look in every cupboard you open.
If you sit on the floor he will run over to you for cuddle time.
Winstons general obedience is good to fair he knows what is expected of him ,but he will misbehave if you haven’t got eyes on him at all times.
He loves people. He will generally ignore them when out on walks and on a lead but if his owners have visitors over he gets very boisterous and jumpy. He jumps all over visitors and does get very excited. He is very friendly but very pushy, if you stop stroking him he will happily get in your face until you keep fussing him.
This would need some addressing with some training put into place.
Children :- Winston lives with two little children and a 6 month old baby.
It’s a very busy household .Winston is tolerant but he always wants to be involved, if you are playing with the baby and sat on the floor he wants to come and play too. He sometimes plays a little too rough with the older kids, not in an aggressive manner.
With the baby he is constantly licking the baby, pawing her when she’s playing on the floor and jumping up to steal food from her hands when she’s in her high chair.
He resource guards with the older children, growling if they come near his food.
This his owners have been working on by feeding him on snuffle matts and in kongs.
Winston now will learn to swap an item for a treat, this training will need to continue.
He will bark at any little noise, routinely waking the baby from her naps. He does not like being left alone in another room if he knows owners are in the house, and if he is left alone uncrated he will get up to mischief eating nappies, child toys or going through the bin. We have had to child lock the bin and crate him when his owners go upstairs.
Training works for a little while but as soon as you try and wean him off the treats as a reward it stops working. He is a lovely dog but very bouncy and over friendly which is not ideal with a small baby. It’s so difficult for his owners with a lively puppy and a baby to separate the attention they both need.
Winston is toilet trained, but please allow for any accidents when any new dogs enter a new environment
He sleeps in his crate at night ,and popped in there whilst owners are busy or going out for short periods of time.
In the home Winston has only been destructive the children’s toys or socks. He has never chewed or destroyed any furniture.
Travels well in the car inside a dog crate
No known dislikes
Winston has been swimming a number of times and he seems to enjoy it.
Favourite items his rope toys and balls
His owners state ,Winston is genuinely a lovely dog and we feel so sad to give him up, but since the baby we are not the right family for him. He deserves much more time and attention than we can give
