   Will you have the funds for insurance, vet bills, food, grooming plus all the equipment a dog needs throughout its lifetime? For a large dog this can be anything up to £30,00 in their lifetime.

   
   

2. Your circumstances
   
   Are you planning a move? Are you changing your job? Do you travel a lot or are you planning a family? If you rescue a dog it needs your full commitment. The dog needs you to be at home with it to help them settle into this new environment and to learn to bond with you.

   Time is the key factor and it may take weeks or even months for a dog to settle and learn.

   How much time can you give a dog? How much training, exercise, stimulation can you honestly provise? Will this dog fit in your lifestyle and will you be willing to adapt?

   
   

3. Security & environment
   
   Is your garden secure, are your fences 6ft and is there a lock on your gate? (all these things will be required with your vetting & homecheck)

   Can you deal with a dog with issues? Would you be willing to put in the time and effort and not give up at the first sign of trouble?
