Volunteer
Volunteers are very important and vital to Doodle Aid, we are always grateful for volunteers who can carrying out transportation, homechecks, fundraising and fostering.
Fostering
Fostering is a very important role; if you’re at home all day and can give a dog a temporary home, whilst Doodle Aid is looking for a permanent home, this would be the single most important gift for Doodleaid and a Doodleaid dog. All our dogs go from home to home (we do not use kennels).
Each fosterer will receive everything they need as Doodleaid pay for vets fees, food, grooming, dog training and any practical thing the dog requires, subject to agreement from the Trustees firstly.
You will need to be over the age of 21and able to transport a dog to appointments. We are particularly short on homes without children or with either no cats or dogs or both, as many of the dogs that come to us, do so because they have issues with these.
You’d need to be reasonably fit and active (dogs need exercise) and would have phone / email assistance from a Doodle Aid Coordinator ,who is experienced and on hand to help.
Becoming a foster carer is one of the most rewarding job you can offer any dog,y ou are a very special person who gives your all in loving and caring for a foster dog. Doodle Aid foster carers can adopt a foster dog so long as they express this interest before another suitable adopter does.
All the information you gather about a foster dog during their time in your home is also invaluable for finding them their perfect home. We can use your observations to match them with a new family and to make the adjustment to their permanent home as easy as possible for them.
We know that without our team of volunteers Doodle Aid ,could not continue its life changing for many dogs and people.
Transportation
To transport a dog from the owners home to another home, you need to be a confident and conscientious driver - a clean driving licence is preferred, although minor driving convictions may not necessarily stop you from volunteering. You should be willing to drive a range of distances which may be out of your local area. Ensuring the vehicle is safe and legally roadworthy to drive.
You may be part of a chain of transport drivers if the dog needs to travel a great distance.
You’ll also need to be willing to handle and manage dogs and puppies using positive reinforcement methods and have suitable equipment in the car for transporting the dog like a crate or a safety harness restraint.
Doodle Aid will pay 25p per mile towards fuel.
Homecheckers
Could you assist with the homing process by becoming a volunteer home checking homes for doodles due to be re-homed ?
This is a key role to make sure no dog is left too long without a permanent home. The role involves communication with potential homes (by phone mostly) to arrange and attend homes checks. You should be comfortable being able to asses a house for it suitability for a dog and will be provided with a checklist and form to complete. You’ll need to be happy showing and asking for identification and will need to take photos to check, for instances, fence heights and entrance/exit safety.
We ask that you always act in an appropriate and friendly manner as a representative of Doodle Aid. You’ll be reimbursed for your travel at 25p per mile.
